INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER PERMITS
Los Angeles County Sanitation District (LACSD), Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) and Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) require all effluent flow measurement systems to be calibrated annually. Depending on the schedule of past calibrations, instrument calibrations need to be done annually. Hydraulic flowmeter calibrations need to be done at least every 3 years. The calibrations conducted need to have a calibration procedure and methods approved by a California registered professional engineer. The approval and results of the calibration are then reported and certified by the engineer in accordance with the format and forms described each sanitation district.
Effluent Flowmeter Instrument Calibrations
Instrument calibrations need to minimally be done yearly on all effluent flow measurement systems reporting to sanitation districts. This calibration needs to confirm that all flow rates are accurately sensed by the primary or secondary measuring device and transmitted to a flow recorder or totalizer. This instrument calibration needs to be tested at a minimum of (3) flow rates covering the range of normal operation.

Effluent Flowmeter Hydraulic Calibrations
Hydraulic flowmeter calibrations need to minimally be done every (3) years on all effluent flow measurement systems reporting to sanitation districts. These calibrations require zeroing of the instrument and then introducing known flow rates in to the system. Our company measures known flow with an independent flowmeter that in then compared to the one installed at the site. The water source is typically taken from either a fire hydrant, water main or water supply. This is always done at a down time and the process wastewater is isolated so only the known flow rate is going through the wastewater system. The flowmeter under test is ran at a minimum of (5) different flow rates covering the range of normal operation. The known flow rates are compared to the site flowmeter and need to meet a minimum of +/- 2% accuracy or better to be in compliance.
